How our data works
impuls8 is a pre-launch intelligence platform for Indian D2C founders. Before you commit months and money to a market, we tell you who is already in it, what they charge, and where the gaps are. That is only worth anything if you can trust the numbers — so this page explains where they come from and how current they are.
Where the data comes from
Every figure on impuls8 is built from information that is already public. Nothing is collected from behind a login, and we hold no private consumer data.
- Brand storefronts — A brand’s own public website — what it sells, how it positions itself, where it ships.
- Public social profiles — Publicly visible profile data and audience counts, as reported by the platform itself.
- Public marketplace listings — Products and prices as publicly displayed by retailers.
- Search interest — Relative public search demand over time, by category and brand.
- Public discussion — What founders and buyers say in open community forums.
- Public disclosures — Funding rounds and company filings that are already a matter of public record.
What we never do
- Access anything behind a login, paywall or private account
- Buy or store personal consumer data
- Sell your account data, or use it for ad targeting
- Present an estimate as if it were a measurement
How a brand gets onto the platform
Three stages. Each one can reject a record, and records that fail are not published.
- 01DiscoverWe look for D2C brands selling to Indian consumers, then check that each one is a real, operating brand rather than a retailer, a marketplace listing or a company that simply shares a name.
- 02EnrichA verified brand is built out with the public signals above — where it sells, what it lists, how visible it is, how demand for it is moving. Each signal is written with the date it was captured.
- 03ScoreComparable signals are turned into the rankings and white-space measures you see. Scores are relative positions within a category, never a valuation or a revenue claim.
Automated collection is not enough on its own, so the catalogue also gets periodic manual review — and we remove our own data when it does not hold up. In August 2026 we deleted 167 records that turned out not to be Indian D2C brands at all. We would rather publish a smaller catalogue that is true than a bigger one that is not.
How fresh each figure is
Different signals move at different speeds, and pretending otherwise is how research tools mislead people. Here is the honest cadence for each.
New brands are added and existing profiles corrected on a rolling basis.
Last captured 14 September 2026.
Every brand is revisited on a cycle. 3,500+ brands currently carry search-interest history.
This is a snapshot, not a live price feed. Current catalogue captured 19 August 2026 — treat it as the shape of a market’s pricing, not today’s shelf price.
Discussion volume and sentiment are re-read each month.
What we do not claim
Knowing the edges of a dataset is part of using it well. These are ours.
- Search interest is not sales. It measures relative public attention over time. A rising line means more people are searching, not that a brand is growing revenue.
- Follower counts are as reported. We record what a public profile displays. We do not audit audience quality or authenticity.
- Pricing shows a market’s shape. Catalogue prices are captured at a point in time and are not a live feed. Use them to understand where a category sits, not to match a competitor today.
- Coverage is uneven by design. Some categories are richer than others. Where a signal is missing we leave it out rather than filling the gap with a guess.
- Estimates are labelled. Anything modelled rather than measured is described as such wherever it appears.
Found something wrong?
Tell us and we will fix it. Corrections from founders are the fastest quality signal we get, and we would rather hear it than have you quietly stop trusting the numbers.
See it for yourself
Every number on impuls8 opens onto the record behind it. Run the analyst on a niche, or browse the catalogue and follow a figure back to its source.
