Who leads sulphate-free haircare in India?

TNW The Natural Wash is the clearest leader, and unusually it is growing rather than defending — 282K followers alongside +7% search momentum. Shesha Ayurveda and Paati follow on reach, both leaning on ayurvedic and heritage framing rather than clinical claims. Below them the niche fragments quickly into small specialists, which is a healthier structure for a new entrant than the single-leader-plus-crowded-tier shape we see in serums.

Why the wide price spread matters

Brand medians run from ₹207 to ₹1,199 — nearly a 6x spread. That is the opposite of what we see in mature niches, where prices converge. A wide spread means buyers have not yet settled on what sulphate-free "should" cost, and that unresolved question is where pricing power lives. A new brand can still choose a position rather than inherit one.

The mid-market is the thinnest part of the band. Havintha and TNW anchor value, Ravel and Thriveco hold premium, and relatively little sits confidently between roughly ₹400 and ₹900. Prices shown are from April 2026.

The signal in Havintha and BeautyWise

The two extremes of the momentum table tell a useful story. Havintha, an Indore brand with just 18K followers, is up 24% while selling the cheapest range in the niche. BeautyWise, at the premium end with a ₹1,739 median, is down 40% — the steepest decline we track here. That is not proof that cheap wins, but it does suggest that in sulphate-free haircare, buyers are currently rewarding accessibility over premium positioning.

The caution worth stating plainly: momentum readings on small brands move more violently than on large ones, so a single quarter of Havintha's growth is a lead to investigate, not a strategy to copy wholesale.

Frequently asked questions

Which are the best sulphate-free shampoo brands in India?

TNW The Natural Wash leads on reach with 282K Instagram followers, followed by Shesha Ayurveda (208K) and Paati (142K). Havintha is the fastest-rising brand in the niche at +24% search momentum. impuls8 tracks 11 D2C brands here.

How much does sulphate-free shampoo cost in India?

The niche median is about ₹399. There is a genuine split: value brands like Havintha (₹207) and TNW (₹300) sit well below premium players like Ravel (₹896) and Thriveco (₹1,199). Prices are as of April 2026.

Is sulphate-free haircare growing in India?

It is one of the few Indian D2C niches we track where momentum is not negative. Of 12 brands with readable search data, 4 are rising and 5 are falling, averaging roughly flat at +0.1%. Compared with most beauty niches, which are declining, flat is a relatively strong signal.

Is there room for a new sulphate-free brand in India?

There is more room here than in most beauty niches. Demand is holding steady rather than shrinking, the price band is genuinely wide, and the two brands growing fastest are small — which suggests the leaders are not locking up demand. The mid-market between roughly ₹400 and ₹900 is the least defended.
