Sourcing Activewear from China: Complete Guide for Indian Brands
India's D2C activewear market has 70+ tracked brands. The top 5 are growing. The other 65 are competing on the same Guangdong fabric and similar price points. Here's how to source smarter — fabric selection, certifications, and the MOQ reality for a first collection.
Where activewear is made in China
Quanzhou (Fujian) and Shantou (Guangdong) are the two dominant activewear manufacturing hubs. Quanzhou is stronger in knit fabrics and performance sportswear; Shantou has more swimwear and yoga-specific factories. Yiwu (Zhejiang) has trading companies that aggregate from both — lower quality control, but useful for finding fabric mills.

Certifications that matter for activewear
OEKO-TEX Standard 100
Tests for harmful substances in fabric. Meaningful for brand positioning ("skin-safe" claim). Ask the mill for OEKO-TEX certificate, not just the manufacturer.
GRS (Global Recycled Standard)
Required if you want to claim "recycled material." Applies to the fabric, not the finished product. Mill must be GRS certified.
No specific Indian mandatory cert
Activewear doesn't have mandatory BIS certification as of 2026. But OEKO-TEX on your hang tag is a strong D2C trust signal.
